Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced on Wednesday that it will resign from all standing committees and boycott upcoming bye-elections, citing concerns over political bias and the ongoing Toshakhana-II case affecting party leaders’ rights. The move reflects the party’s growing frustration with legal proceedings and parliamentary processes.
First to resign was Faisal Amin, brother of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. He stepped down from the economic affairs committee, the food security committee, and the parliamentary task force, signaling the party’s collective protest against current political developments.
In a statement, PTI’s political committee thanked party founder Imran Khan for his trust and leadership. The committee also noted that other political matters were forwarded for discussion, highlighting concerns over fairness and impartiality in parliamentary hearings that directly affect basic rights of the accused.
The committee criticized the daily hearings of the Toshakhana-II case, stating that such proceedings create hurdles to delivering justice and directly impact party leaders’ ability to function. PTI emphasized that disqualified leaders involved in the May 9 riots remain true representatives of the party despite legal challenges.
The statement also paid tribute to PTI members who were allegedly given illegal jail terms, reaffirming the party’s support for their contributions. Despite resignations and boycotts, PTI announced participation in the NA-129 bye-elections, indicating selective engagement in electoral politics.
Finally, the political committee declared that PTI will field its candidate for the vacant post of the late Mian Mohammad Azhar. Party officials stressed that these decisions are aimed at protecting rights, asserting principles, and challenging what they describe as politically motivated legal proceedings.
