ISLAMABAD: The subject of Rehabilitation Sciences is a fast-emerging field of study in Pakistan. Modern day advancements are playing a vital role in stabilising the lives of disabled people, stated a press release issued by the Isra University on Thursday.
“Rehabilitation Sciences include physiotherapy, speech and hearing sciences, psychology, orthotics prosthesis, and occupational therapy. Academia is the back bone of any profession, within a decade the rehabilitation sciences academic profile reaches till undergraduate to PhD level. Now various institutions colleges, universities are offering rehabilitation degree programmes,” said the statement. “The rehabilitation institution promotes critical thinking and inquiry to foster an environment of research and academic learning. Its programmes have been designed to meet the growing demand of the populace in rehabilitating patients suffering from injuries and disabilities. These degree level programmes in rehabilitation sciences are recognised by HEC,” it stated. “Isra University is the only university that has produced the first PhD in the field of Rehabilitation Sciences in Pakistan. Dr Muhammad Naveed Babur is the first ever PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences in Pakistan. He has 15 years of excellent academic career in rehabilitation. He has held positions in various universities of Pakistan. Currently, he is the dean of Rehabilitation Sciences in Isra University, Islamabad campus. He holds a fellowship in Neuro Rehabilitation from Seoul National University, South Korea,” it said.
