SC resumes Tareen disqualification case hearing

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan resumed hearing the disqualification case lodged against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Jahangir Tareen today on Tuesday.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Hanif Abbasi had filed a petition in the SC seeking the disqualification of Tareen PTI Chairman Imran Khan over their alleged non-declaration of assets and ownership of offshore companies from the Parliament.
Headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar , a three- member bench is hearing the case.
PTI chairman’s counsel Babar Awan and Abbasi’s counsel Akram Sheikh began presenting their arguments as the hearing began.
During the last hearing that took place on October 25, CJ noted that Tareen had not submitted the ‘trust deed’ linked to his property in the United Kingdom.
Shaukat Tareen submitted the trust deed of the 12 acre property over the weekend, and according to the document, Tareen is a ‘settlor’ for the trust which owns 12 acres in the UK through a company named Shiny View Limited.
According to the submitted document, the trust was established in 2011 for a period spanning 150 years, meanwhile, Tareen has been listed as the trust’s ‘discretionary lifetime beneficiary’ along with his wife in the document.
It also states that any discretionary beneficiary can be directed funds and in case of Tareen’s death, his wife, children and grandchildren will be named as discretionary beneficiaries.
